In short: every NBN Design job is designed by Michael Almond, NBN accredited for SDU and MDU pit and pipe design (enAble ID 439386). Since 2022 he has designed NBN pit and pipe networks for more than 300 developments across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT, backed by a background in electrical network design and engineering delivery.
Michael Almond, principal designer
Michael founded NBN Design in 2022 to give developers, builders and civil firms a simple way to get NBN pit and pipe designed properly: one designer, a fixed per-unit price, and a design prepared to NBN's current standard.
NBN accredited designer for single dwelling unit (SDU) and multi dwelling unit (MDU) pit and pipe design, enAble ID 439386.
More than 300 NBN pit and pipe designs delivered since 2022, from single duplexes to stages of almost 100 lots and apartment buildings.
Projects in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT.
Project Management Professional (PMP) and Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP), Project Management Institute.
Engineering background
Michael has a background in Mechatronics Engineering (Honours) at the University of Newcastle, where he completed his thesis on the optimisation and automation of electrical infrastructure, graded High Distinction.
Before NBN Design, Michael worked as an electrical design engineer with an accredited Level 3 service provider, designing network connections across the Ausgrid, Essential Energy and Endeavour Energy networks. That work covered residential and commercial subdivisions, multi-stage subdivision supply, network extensions and relocations, and high voltage transmission design. Subdivision work is where pit and pipe meets everything else in the verge: power, transformers, driveways and road crossings, which is exactly what an NBN design has to work around.
Alongside NBN Design, Michael works in engineering and portfolio delivery on substation, transmission and distribution projects for a major electricity utility, and is completing a Doctorate of Business Administration. He presented at the Engineers Australia Smart Climate Engineering Conference in 2021.
How we work
- One designer, start to finish. The person who quotes your job designs it and answers NBN's comments.
- Current standard, every job. We check the current revision of NBN's pit and conduit and MDU standards before each design.
- Clear pricing. A published per-unit price, a free quote and no minimum fee. See pricing.
- Two-week turnaround from complete CAD plans, with any risk to that flagged when plans arrive.
- Australia-wide. NBN's new developments process is national, and designs are delivered digitally.
